It remains active when switching channels or appears randomly. In such cases, you want to turn off the subtitles, preferably quickly and without searching through the menu for a long time. Sometimes it is the other way around and subtitles are intended to run, for example, when the sound is extremely quiet or the dialogue is unclear.   <\/p>\n\n  <aside class=\"fa-highlight\" aria-label=\"Zusammenfassung\">\n    <p class=\"fa-highlight-title\">Highlight Box<\/p>\n    <ul>\n      <li>The fastest way is via the subtitle button on the remote control, often labeled SUB, STTL, or featuring a speech bubble icon.<\/li>\n      <li>Subtitles can be permanently turned on and off in the menu under Accessibility, Sound, or Language.<\/li>\n      <li>For teletext subtitles, it usually helps to exit the teletext page or close the teletext entirely.<\/li>\n      <li>Subtitles burned into the image and subtitles from an app or a receiver cannot be turned off via the TV menu.<\/li>\n      <li>To turn them on, the broadcaster or service must provide subtitles for the respective program in the first place.<\/li>\n    <\/ul>\n  <\/aside>\n\n  <div class=\"fa-content\">\n\n    <section id=\"ausschalten\">\n      <h2 id=\"h2-ausschalten\">Turn Off Subtitles on the TV<\/h2>\n      <p>Subtitles can be turned off in several ways. Which one makes the most sense depends on where the subtitles come from and how they were turned on. In most cases, a single button press is sufficient; sometimes the path leads through the menu.  <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Via the Subtitle Button on the Remote Control<\/h3>\n      <p>Many remote controls have a dedicated button for subtitles. It is often labeled SUB, SUBT, or STTL, or shows a speech bubble icon. Pressing it hides the subtitles, and pressing it again brings them back. If a dedicated button is missing, the function is often hidden behind a button for options, language, or audio, or behind a gear icon. The exact designation differs depending on the remote control.    <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Via the TV Menu<\/h3>\n      <p>If no suitable button can be found, the path leads through the TV menu. There, subtitles are usually found under Accessibility, Vision and Hearing Aids, Sound, or Language. If the function is set to Off here, the subtitles remain off, even when switching between channels. Some devices distinguish between normal subtitles and subtitles for the hearing impaired.   <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Teletext Subtitles<\/h3>\n      <p>If the subtitles originate from teletext, they cannot be turned off via the normal subtitle button. In this case, however, it is sufficient to close the teletext again or leave the subtitle page. As soon as the teletext page is no longer active, the text overlays also disappear.  <\/p>\n\n      <h3>HbbTV or Color Buttons<\/h3>\n      <p>If subtitles were activated via an interactive service from the broadcaster, control often runs via HbbTV or a color button, which is frequently red. The &#8220;normal&#8221; subtitle button does not always work here. In that case, the interactive menu must be opened again and the subtitles deactivated there. Whether this option is available depends on the broadcaster, device, and reception path.   <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n    <section id=\"bleiben\">\n      <h2 id=\"h2-bleiben\">If Subtitles Cannot Be Turned Off<\/h2>\n      <p>If the subtitles remain despite pressing the button, it is usually not due to the TV itself, but rather where the text originates from.<\/p>\n\n      <h3>1. Subtitles Are Permanently Activated in the Menu<\/h3>\n      <p>If the subtitle function was permanently turned on in the menu, the TV automatically displays subtitles for every available program. A short press on the subtitle button then only helps for the current program; they will be back on the next channel. In this case, the setting in the menu under Accessibility or Language must be reset. Exactly where this setting is located varies from device to device; usually, the path leads through the main menu and from there to the area for accessibility or sound.   <\/p>\n\n      <h3>2. Subtitles Are Burned Into the Image<\/h3>\n      <p>So-called open subtitles are permanently connected to the image, for example, in foreign-language passages or in some recordings. Such burned-in subtitles generally cannot be hidden via the TV menu because they are not a separate, switchable data stream, but part of the image. <\/p>\n\n      <h3>3. Subtitles Come From an App or a Receiver<\/h3>\n      <p>For media libraries and streaming apps, subtitles are not controlled via the TV menu, but in the app&#8217;s player. If you have selected a subtitle track there, you can only turn it off there as well. If the TV signal runs through an external box or a receiver, this device is often responsible for the subtitles; then only its own remote control or its menu will help.  <\/p>\n\n      <aside class=\"fa-infobox\" role=\"note\">\n        <strong>Good to know<\/strong>\n If subtitles appear automatically in videos from external devices, they may be included as a separate subtitle track in the file. In that case, they can often be deactivated in the TV&#8217;s playback options for the current file. If, on the other hand, the subtitles are burned into the image, they cannot be turned off.  \n      <\/aside>\n\n      <aside class=\"fa-infobox\" role=\"note\">\n        <strong>Note<\/strong>\n If no text appears, but an additional voice describes the action, these are not subtitles, but usually audio description or an operating aid. This function is deactivated at a different point in the menu. \n      <\/aside>\n    <\/section>\n\n    <section id=\"einschalten\">\n      <h2 id=\"h2-einschalten\">Turn Subtitles Back On<\/h2>\n      <p>To turn them on, the same paths apply as for turning them off, just in the other direction. The prerequisite is always that the broadcaster or service provides subtitles for the program at all. If the track is missing, the TV cannot generate subtitles.  <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Via Button or Menu<\/h3>\n      <p>Pressing the subtitle button turns the text on, provided it is available. If you need subtitles regularly, activate them permanently in the menu under Accessibility or Language. They will then appear automatically for every suitable program without having to intervene every time. If a program does not offer subtitles, the function remains ineffective until a program with subtitles is running.   <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Via Teletext<\/h3>\n      <p>For teletext subtitles, the teletext is opened first, and then the appropriate subtitle page is called up. The page number depends on the program and can differ depending on the broadcaster. As soon as the page is active, the subtitles run along with the program.  <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n    <section id=\"arten\">\n      <h2 id=\"h2-arten\">What Types of Subtitles Are There?<\/h2>\n      <p>The fact that the way to turn them on and off is different depending on the program is due to the different types of subtitles. Closed subtitles can be turned on and off. Open subtitles are those that are burned into the image and remain visible regardless of which setting is selected on the TV.  <\/p>\n\n      <p>For many programs, there is also a choice between normal subtitles and subtitles for the hearing impaired. These not only reproduce the dialogue but also describe noises, music, or a change of speaker. They are intended primarily for viewers with hearing loss. These can usually be selected on the TV separately from normal subtitles.   <\/p>\n\n      <p>A special feature is live subtitles for news, sports, or talk shows. They are often created during the broadcast and therefore run with a short delay. Occasional typos or omissions are technical in nature and not a sign of a problem with the TV.  <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n    <section id=\"anpassen\">\n      <h2 id=\"h2-anpassen\">Adjust Subtitles<\/h2>\n      <p>With digital subtitles, you can control not only &#8220;whether&#8221; subtitles are displayed, but also &#8220;how&#8221; they are displayed. Depending on the device, several settings are available to improve readability. <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Select Language<\/h3>\n      <p>If a program offers multiple subtitle tracks, the desired language can be selected. Some devices allow you to set a preferred and a second backup language. In media libraries and streaming apps, the language is usually chosen directly in the player.
