Small tweeters reproduce fine, high frequencies, while mid-range drivers cover the range where voices and most instruments lie. This interplay creates a wider soundstage than the tiny speakers of a television can produce. The length of a soundbar often corresponds approximately to the width of the television (or slightly less), so that it is not perceived as visually disruptive.   <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Flat-Screen TVs Often Have Poor Sound<\/h3>\n      <p>Modern televisions are built extremely flat, and that is precisely the problem. For full, deep sound, a speaker needs a certain housing volume as a resonance chamber. This volume is simply missing in thin televisions. Because more housing volume is available, forward- or downward-firing bass is often already integrated. However, unlike a bar, a sound deck cannot be mounted on the wall.    <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n    <section id=\"vs-surround\">\n      <h2 id=\"h2-vs-surround\">Soundbar or Classic Surround System<\/h2>\n      <p>For many, the central question before purchasing is whether a single bar is sufficient or whether it should be a classic multi-channel system. Both paths lead to better sound but differ in essential aspects such as cost, space requirements, and audio quality. <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Setup and Space<\/h3>\n      <p>A classic 5.1 system consists of several individual speakers that must be distributed around the room and connected with cables. In addition, there is usually a separate AV receiver as a control center. This results in the most spatial sound but requires space, cabling, and some technical skill for the setup. The soundbar reverses this principle and puts the most important speakers into one housing. This eliminates the need to run long cables to front, rear, and center speakers, and the appearance remains tidy.    <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Basis for Decision<\/h3>\n      <p>Those looking for maximum, precisely locatable spatial sound for a true home theater and who have the space for it are often better off with a multi-part system. For most living rooms, however, the soundbar is the ideal compromise between low effort, clean design, clearly audible improvement, and a good price-performance ratio. The transition is fluid, as many soundbars can be expanded into a small surround set with a subwoofer and wireless rear speakers.  <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n<section id=\"kanaele\">\n      <h2 id=\"h2-kanaele\">Channel Systems<\/h2>\n      <p>The numbers in the data sheet describe, by way of example, how many channels the sound is composed of. Once you understand the system, you can quickly categorize models. <\/p>\n\n      <h3>What the Numbers Mean<\/h3>\n      <p>The first number stands for the main speakers at ear level, the second for a separate subwoofer, and a third number, if present, for upward-firing height channels. A 2.0 bar therefore delivers pure stereo sound, a 2.1 adds a woofer, and from 5.1 onwards, channels for the room are added. The scale is open at the top. Systems like 7.1 or 7.1.4 add further rear and height channels, and at the top end are elaborate configurations like 9.1.4 or 11.1.4. However, such large systems usually only achieve their full effect with additional rear speakers and upward-firing drivers, not with a single bar alone. It reproduces voices and dialogue specifically from the center, separate from music and effects on the other channels. This ensures that spoken passages remain easier to understand even in loud scenes. Systems without a dedicated center, on the other hand, mix the voices into the main channels, which is hardly noticeable in quiet moments but reaches its limits more quickly when there is a lot of activity in the audio. However, how clearly dialogue ultimately comes across depends not only on the center channel but also on signal processing and many other aspects.    <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n    <section id=\"raumklang\">\n      <h2 id=\"h2-raumklang\">How Spatial Sound Is Created from the Soundbar<\/h2>\n      <p>A TV soundbar is usually placed at the front of the television and yet aims to make sound feel as if it is coming from the entire room. This is made possible by a mixture of physical aspects and signal processing. <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Virtual Surround and Reflections<\/h3>\n      <p>Since speakers behind the sofa or the viewer are usually missing, soundbars work with virtual surround. Specially aligned drivers beam the sound specifically against side walls and the ceiling, from where it is reflected back to the listening position, creating the impression that it is coming from the room. In addition, digital signal processing specifically alters frequencies and delay times so that the ear perceives a wider and deeper space than the slim design actually allows. These psychoacoustic tricks work well but depend heavily on the room shape and reflective surfaces.   <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Dolby Atmos and Sound from Above<\/h3>\n      <p>Modern 3D audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X go one step further. Instead of rigidly assigning sound to individual channels, they work object-based. Object-based here means that individual sound objects are assigned coordinates in three-dimensional space. The device calculates in real time which drivers reproduce an object, so that, for example, a helicopter in a movie actually seems to come from diagonally above. Upward-firing drivers play against the ceiling for this purpose, whose reflection is perceived as a height layer. This creates a sound dome over the sofa without the need to mount speakers on the ceiling.     <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n    <section id=\"subwoofer\">\n      <h2 id=\"h2-subwoofer\">The Subwoofer and Bass<\/h2>\n      <p>For perceptible impact in action scenes or music, the reproduction of low frequencies is crucial.
